ECSWomen

I am really excited to be part of a fab new group called ECSWomen! The aim of the group is to support women in ECS by delivering social events, talks and career advice. ECSWomen is formed by a couple of students that had the opportunitiy to attend the Grace Hopper Conference in Florida. It inspired us to create a group to support women within ECS. Below are a list of events for this year:

  • Part 1 student social:

A Social is being held for first year students by the ECSWomen Group in the Library Cafe on Monday 3rd December from about 14.00 until about 16.00. You are very welcome to be there to share coffee with the current members of the Group and to get to know them better. They want to tell you about the Group. They will be wearing ECSWomen t-shirts, so you will not be able to miss them!

  • ECSWomen Launch Social

A launch social will be held for all on the 10th December in seminar room 1 from 5:30pm. There will be a presentation on the Grace Hopper Conference that some of us attended and then a panel session where panelists will talk about their experience of computing and will be dishing out advice and tips. Special guests include: Professor Harvey Rutt and Eric Cooke!

  • Rachel Burnett

Rachel Burnett is president of the British Computer Society and will be speaking here on the 10th January. Abstract and logistical details to be confirmed so watch this space!
